Grow your Audio Book Club…

How do you do it if you can not just add water?

In order for you to host an audio book club, you first need to bring a group of people together. If your friends are already interested in books, no matter if they read paperback books or enjoy spoken audio books like yourself, then your audio book club is well on its way. If you’re starting from scratch or looking to expand your audiobook club, there are some ways to meet new people.

You can start an audio book club to have a function for the people close to you to enjoy or maybe you would like to meet new people in the immediate area where you live. It does not matter what your main reason for starting an audio book club, the main ingredient you need to start with is people. So if your group is made up of friends, family or neighbors then you are ahead of the game (so to speak).

But what happens if you are needing to find new people to either join an existing group or to start a new group from scratch? Then you need to know how and where you can meet new people that are interested in books. It does not matter if the people are accustomed to reading paperback books or like listening to audio books like yourself. The important aspect you need to find in people is a love for books. For a lot of people that read books in the traditional sense, listening to an audiobook will be an eye opening experience and new audio book lovers will be realized.

So lets take a look at some places that you can use to meet new people and grow your audio book club numbers.

Libraries are a terrific place to post a note telling people of your upcoming audio book club. At least you know that the people reading your note will be avid readers, they are in a library aren’t they? Make sure you ask permission from the library staff to post your audiobook club note, it is just a polite thing to do.

Local Bookstores are another great place to find book lovers. Actually, often the more active bookstores hold book readings each week or monthly. Take in some of these book readings and see if people attending these readings would be interested in attending your audio book club. Also, bookstores are another place you can post a note on their bulliten board advertising your audio book club. Again, it is polite to ask permission to post your note on their board.

Free or Cheaper Local Papers are a good way to meet people to grow your audio book club. Often, the free local newspapers will allow you to post advertisements for your audiobook club. See if bookstores or libraries in your area publish a monthly paper that you might be able to place an advertisement into for an affordable price (if there is even a cost).

Meeting people online (web) is another option to grow your audio book club. There are many forums available that you can see how many of them are from your area and if they would be interested in your club. This will be a harder way to meet people in your area than the other suggestions, but it can be done.

Word of Mouth is the best form of advertisement for any business and club like yours. Ask your present members if they have any friends, relatives or neighbors that would be interested in attending your audio book club. You would be surprised how many people know others with similar interests.

Leaflet your neighborhood with pamphlets you can make on your computer. Do not worry if you do not know all the people living in your area (who does) but make sure you leave the proper contact information on your pamphlet such as phone number, email address and first name. Tell them what you are to growing your audio book club and are looking for new people to join. Make sure you tell them it is a free event and how often the audio book club gets together. Give a brief description of an audio book just in case some people might not be familiar with them, but they maybe interested to listen to a talking book and see if they like it.

Kids Activities such as swimming lessons, sports teams or school meetings is another great place to meet people that might be interested in listening to talking audio books with your audio book club.
Use any of these areas and places to help grow your audio book club when you need to start a new audio book club or add new members to an existing audiobook club. There are many opportunities all around you to meet new people and get your audio book club started. So like the the popular NIKE slogan goes -JUST DO IT!
